Demi Lovato rocked out in New York’s Central Park as part of her appearance on Good Morning America on Friday (July 6).
The actress/singer performed her hits ‘Unbroken,’ ‘Give Your Heart a Break’ and ‘Skyscraper’ during the show, which was part of GMA‘s Summer concert Series.
Later in the show Demi opened up about her battle with eating issues and depression, and why she decided to go public with her diagnosis and treatment. “That’s what being a role model is about,” she said. “It’s not about being perfect. It’s about speaking about your issues and inspiring others to get help.”
The 19-year-old says that being diagnosed with bipolar disorder was actually a relief after years of struggle. “I would stay up until like five in the morning just playing guitar and my parents would wake up for work and they’d be like, ‘What are you doing?,’” she said. “And finally when I got diagnosed I was like, ‘Oh, cool, I’m not crazy, it’s something. It’s a disease.’”
