The wait is over for Carly Rae Jepsen fans. Her new album is called Kiss and drops on September 18. All week the Call Me Maybe singer has been dropping hints on Twitter. On July 31 she posted a photo and wrote: “Photo shoot for album today!”
Jepsen says in a statement, “I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to be able to collaborate with some of my dream producers. It has been the most fulfilling experience. The record is pop. It’s inspired by Robyn, The Cars, Madonna, and believe it or not, James Taylor. I can’t wait to share it with everyone! Kiss.”
The producers she worked with are big names. Max Martin, Dallas Austin, LMFAO’s Redfoo, Toby Gad and Matthew Koma all helped on the project. There’s also an unnamed track with Justin Bieber.
She explained to MTV earlier this summer, “The Justin song, I’m kind of sworn to secrecy on because I think we want to release it together at one moment. But the rest of the album, I’m really excited for.”
The timing is perfect since she’ll be touring with Justin also in September.
“I don’t know what to expect. I did one or two shows with Justin. One in London and one in Mexico City, and all I can say is, like, ‘Wow.’ They were huge — 300,000 people in Mexico City. I was speechless. … I think that like in 10 years’ time I’m gonna sit back and look at everything that’s happening to me this year and actually have a ‘whoa’ kind of a moment.”
The next big public appearance for Jepsen is when she shows up at the MTV VMAs on September 6. She’s up against One Direction, Fun., Frank Ocean and the Wanted for a Best New Artist. The show will air live on September 6.
