One Direction had possibly the biggest night of their career when they played for a global audience at the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics earlier this month. Now they’ll be playing for a slightly smaller audience – although just as enthusiastic – when they appear live on the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6.
The first promo spot has been released, showing a behind-the-scenes look at Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson as they make their way to the stage and saying, “Tonight, we take this stage for the first time, we are ready – are you?” Something tells me all the 1D fans are ready alright.
Not only are the boys performing, but they’re up for two VMA awards: Best Pop Video and Best New Artist for their “What Make You Beautiful” video. But it’s clear the band is most excited about performing for their fans at the hugely popular annual event.
“We’re really looking forward to the VMAs,” Liam told MTV News. “It’s quite nerve-racking as well, because obviously there’s been so many historical moments and stuff that have happened at the VMAs. Now we want to make a moment ourselves, but who knows?”
“It’s a big occasion to perform at the VMAs, and we’re here for our fans,” Harry added. “So this one’s for our fans.”
