Hollywood loves volleyball! The celebrities came out for the AVP (Assoc. Of Volleyball Professionals) Championship VIP Players Party in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Saturday (September 8). The event was a chance for athletes to celebrate the final tournament stop of the 2012 season and also their recent London Olympics successes.
Among the celebs who participated in the event – a benefit for the Surfrider Foundation, an organization dedicated to the protection of the worlds beaches – were Dallas‘ Josh Henderson (fourth from left) and 90210‘s Matt Lanter (right.) After hitting the sand for a few matches, they spoke exclusively with Celebrity Teen Scoop about their AVP experience.
For Josh, playing amongst Olympic medalists (like 2012 Olympic Gold medalist Kerri Walsh) was the chance of a lifetime. “I love playing beach volleyball,” he said. “When we had the opportunity to play at the AVP Championships against gold and silver medalists from the U.S. Olympic team and in front of this pumped up stadium crowd on the beach in Santa Barbara, I jumped on it.”
Matt was just as enthused, and happy to be playing for a cause. “Unbelievable!” he said. “Playing at the AVP Championships against ‘The Avatar’ (7’1″AVP star Ryan Doherty) and U.S. Olympic stars was just awesome, but even better was that we were able to raise awareness and funds for the Surfrider Foundation.”
