Parker Young is getting his feet wet. Literally. The Suburgatory star recently participated in the Nautical Malibu Triathlon, a grueling race of swimming, biking and running and had “a blast” he tells Celebrity Teen Scoop exclusively.
For the 24-year-old heartthrob, his real motivation was knowing they were raising money for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Pediatric Cancer Research Program. “It was a blast swimming as a part of Team Suburgatory for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon for the 2nd year in a row,” Parker tells Celebrity Teen Scoop. “I swam a ½ mile, Chris Della Penna biked the 18-mile course and Alan Tudyk did the 4 mile run. The best part is that we were able to help raise so much money for the children’s hospital. I hope that next year we are able to raise even more money…and placing better than 5th wouldn’t be so bad either!”
The race – that took place on September 16 – brought lots of celebrities out for the cause. Vampire Diaries‘ Claire Holt and Make It Or Break It‘s Josie Loren also joined Parker on the beach that day.
Parker hasn’t been training for long. In a recent interview, he talked about how a scene from Suburgatory actually launched his triathlon career. “Last year on my birthday (August 16th) I did a scene for Suburgatory, in which I was shirtless and washing a car,” he says. “It was pretty ridiculous, I know. Anyways, our sound mixer Kevin Compayre (who competed in the Ironman) saw me and thought I looked fit and asked if I had ever done a triathlon. I told him I had not, so he recommended I compete in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon.
“The next month I was competing in my first triathlon as part of the ‘Suburgatory Relay.’ I guess, technically, I’ve been a triathlete for less than a year!”
