In the interview – the 26-year-old shares the story of how she got the part in the ABC Family series.
In 2009 she flew to L.A. to read for the part after her agent sent her the script to the show’s pilot. She said she felt “so fancy” when the studio prepaid her lunch and woke up to a hotel recording of “Good morning; today is your day to become a star.”
She got the part two days later.
“I just remember screaming. Everybody at the hotel must have thought I was getting murdered. On the flight home, I was walking to my seat in the back and the flight attendant checked my ticket and was like ‘Oh, no, you’re in first class.’ I’d never sat there before—it was surreal.”
Mitchell is confident now – but in high school she shared she “was so uncomfortable with myself.”
The brunette beauty stated, “All my friends were blond and blueeyed. My mom is Filipino—but my friends’ nannies were Filipino.”
To deal with her looks she dyed her hair blond and wore watercolor-hued contact lenses. When she moved to Bangkok and Hong Kong to model – she changed the way she felt about her exotic features.
She laughed, “I was getting cast because I didn’t look like anyone else.”
