Selena Gomez recently cancelled the Australian leg of her tour saying she wanted to take more time for herself. The announcement fueled rumors that she was headed to rehab, but now reports are that the singer is battling the autoimmune disease, Lupus.
Sources say Selena was actually diagnosed with the disease a couple of years ago but has recently suffered several episodes called ‘flares’ that involve facial swelling, fatigue, headaches and joint pain.
“Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now,” the source told entertainment website PopDust. “She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life.”
The 21-year-old’s rep told the Huffington Post “no comment” when asked about Selena‘s diagnosis. Earlier a source denied the rehab rumors to E! News but made no mention about any other health issues.
“She is not having a breakdown. She wants to be the healthiest that she can be and this means taking a little break. But she is fine. She is OK,” the source said.
