The cast and executive producers of The Vampire Diaries dished about Season 4 at Comic-Con this past Saturday. Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino, and Steven R. McQueen were on hand to talk about what’s ahead for viewers. They’ve been shooting the new season for a week now.
Somerhalder – who plays Damon – said of his character, “At this point, he’s tried. He tried to be someone people wanted him to be, but he’s not. In Damon’s view, he’s thinking ‘I did everything you wanted me to do, and it didn’t work, and if you don’t like it, you can go bleep yourself.’”
As for the Damon, Stefan and Elena love triangle, Ian added that vampire Elena is “gonna need these two”.
“Elena was a badass girl, and now she’s a badass vampire girl and can take care of herself. It’s going to add a really interesting dynamic between [Stefan, Damon and Elena]. I think they’ll learn a lot together in a really short amount of time.”
Dobrev added, “How do you make Elena, the vampire, different from her [human] self? It’s going to be difficult … I think it’s going to [depend on] her experiences. Everything’s going to be heightened. She’s constantly going to be struggling with what she is.”
Wesley said, “[Stefan and Damon will] maybe let her get a little wild now that she’s invisible and I don’t know [what my character will do] maybe go back to being Ripper Stefan, that’s be nice.”
The fourth season of The Vampire Diaries premieres on October 11 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
