Austin Mahone won his first VMA award Sunday night (August 25). After performing What About Love he took home the Artist To Watch award. It was also the first time he went to the VMAs – held this year at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
He posted a photo via Instagram and wrote: “Still can’t believe I won this award last night. Truly a dream come true and this just the beginning! Thank u for all you do.”
At the event he met up with Taylor Swift – whom he happily posed with.

On Monday morning it was back to reality. He tweeted “Just landed in Vermont.”
Backstage the 17-year-old told The Hollywood Reporter, “It feels amazing. It’s the best day ever. It was an honor to even be on the carpet, but I performed and I won the award, so I couldn’t have asked for a better night.”
In an interview with the trade paper two days ago – the teen admitted he watched the show growing up in Texas.
“I remember a long time ago when I was in school and I was supposed to be doing my homework and I would watch the VMAs instead. My mom would get so mad at me.”
